Thank You for Helping Families in Need

sv-photo-for-blogSonia and her husband, Arturo, are doing the best they can to raise their three children — Melany, Misty and Cesar. But until recently, the couple had been frustrated that they couldn’t provide even simple, affordable meals for their family.

Because their youngest child, Melany, is still too young for school, Sonia cares for her full-time. Childcare costs are more than she’d be able to make outside the home right now. Arturo works at a local restaurant to provide for his family, but his income sometimes can’t stretch to afford all their bills plus a trip to the grocery story.

Fortunately, one day the older kids’ school — Sam Houston Elementary — sent home a flyer advertising the school’s new pantry program. This resource, made available through your gifts to the North Texas Food Bank, connects families like Sonia and Arturo’s with a supplement for their tight food budget.

“Sometimes we don’t have enough — this is a great help,” Sonia says of the new pantry.

Each month the School Pantryprogram distributes healthy foods, including some of Misty and Cesar’s favorites — apples and corn. These and many more items are available to families in need, all because you choose to give.

Sonia knows her kids need plenty of fruits and vegetables to stay healthy and succeed in school. She’s seen how her kids are when they don’t have enough to eat, and it’s so comforting for her to know someone like you cares enough to help.

“Thank you,” she says. “We enjoy everything we get!”
