Florence Doswell’s Legacy of Hunger Relief Lives On

The Doswell Foundation, founded in 2008 by Florence A. Doswell, is a million meal contributor to the North Texas Food Bank, having contributed sufficient funds to provide over one million meals to needy families across North Texas.

ntfb-aug-nl-photo046After many years as a successful businesswoman, Florence Doswell decided it was time to serve others more directly. She started out by making gifts to universities and healthcare providers, but when the economy collapsed in 2009, she began to focus on helping meet basic human needs — like food.

Florence learned about hardworking families across our community struggling to survive and was determined to help. Working through her foundation, she began searching for organizations that could do the most good for families in need. She found a solution in the North Texas Food Bank.

After touring the distribution center of the NTFB, Florence was convinced that the organization was a nonprofit with the ability to create lasting change during a time of great crisis. Deeply impressed by its efficiency, her foundation began providing grants to help ensure more North Texas children and families had enough to eat.

Florence passed away in 2012. However, her legacy of thoughtful giving continues through the Doswell Foundation, which helps provide the nutritious meals that our hungry neighbors need.

This year, for example, the Foundation provided a generous grant of $75,000 for a new program aimed at fighting hunger — the Summer Breakfast Program for Children. Through a partnership with Twelve Oaks Catering, meals are delivered to feeding sites across North Texas. Roughly 825 children received nutritious breakfasts this summer.

We wish to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the. Doswell Foundation. Your generosity is ensuring that more children in our community have the healthy food they need to thrive.
